The Traces of Life – Moving with Knowledge from the Past into the Future: The Rami Library
21 December 2022
At the beginning of his long story on earth, man was perhaps one of the most vulnerable creatures living in nature. At that time, if an outside observer were to watch him, he would probably say to himself, 'Pity!' Alas, it is a miracle that he survived at all! It has also managed to spread all over the world and spawn dazzling civilizations. Of course, he made use of many tools in doing so, but he had a very powerful weapon that formed the basis of everything he created: Knowledge. First he acquired the knowledge of fire, which mythology says was stolen from the gods, then he cultivated and harvested the land with knowledge. Knowledge became healing. Knowledge became power. Knowledge, a whole life... And he eventually built castles from the knowledge that gave him the chance to build the life he had: Libraries.
Rami Library, one of the largest libraries in Turkey and the world, is one of those fortresses that preserve knowledge and life, whose fate seems to depend on it. In an arrangement reminiscent of the life cycle of human beings that begins with birth and ends with the burial in the ground; Rami Library, which follows a line extending from Baby and Children's Libraries to Specialized Libraries, from old Manuscripts to the Healing House that restores them to health by renewing them, seems to whisper endlessly as if repeating an ancient prayer: 'Knowledge is life, and the library is its castle!'
