The Unique Features of a Living Library
21 December 2022
The Rami Library arose from the restoration of the Rami Farm Barracks, erected in the 18th century. The transformation of a barracks into a castle of knowledge is a fitting tribute to the Library’s illustrious predecessors, such as the Library of Alexandria, destroyed by wars and conflict.
The Rami Library aims to uphold the noble tradition of libraries which, throughout history, have served as serene havens for humans seeking knowledge. As a living library, the Rami Library is also a dynamic establishment that is constantly evolving and changing.
Featuring a recreational area of 50,000 square meters laid out like a national garden, the Rami Library was restored using natural materials in harmony with its original structure and designed in accordance with the sustainability approach. The complex is intertwined with lush greenery and walking and cycling paths.
The Rami Library, endeavouring to be not only a library but to embrace life in its many facets, also moves to be a unique contributor to the living library concept, offering halls, stages and free activity zones, along with exhibition, reading, collaboration and children’s play areas.
